Biography

Sarah serves as a Senior Hawk Link Coordinator within the Hawk Link Office of Academic Success. In this role, Sarah leads a five-day early transition program for First-Generation and Pell-eligible students, Jayhawk JumpStart. This program is responsible for providing students with opportunities to move in a week before classes start, begin building community, and learn as much as they can about KU and its abundant resources. Beyond Jumpstart, Hawk Link is a student support service on campus that helps students learn how to navigate campus academically and personally. If there is something a student needs help with and is not sure where to start, then they can always look for that support within Hawk Link.

Originally from Kansas and a proud KU Alumna, Sarah earned her Master of Music Education with an emphasis in Music Therapy from the University of Kansas in 2013. Her thesis is titled, Activity Leader Facilitation of a Rhythm Activity to Engage Persons with Late-Stage Alzheimer's-Type Dementia: A Feasibility Study. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Emporia State University. Sarah spent most of her career working in the Dallas, Texas area, where she started a music therapy program for inpatients at a local children's hospital. Later in her career, she worked in a psychiatric hospital for seniors with dementia and psychiatric diagnoses.  Sarah's experience in the field of music therapy solidified her passion for helping others, and in a time when a career change seemed imminent, she found comfort in diving into higher education.

Sarah loves ALL things KU, sings in the KU Faculty and Staff Choir: Bales Choral Society, and considers herself an avid world traveler. She loves singing and trying out the local coffee shops in Lawrence. If you ever need a helping hand or someone to just listen, then feel free to schedule a time to meet or drop by the Hawk Link offices.
